Intellectual Property Law
We advise on the registration, protection, licensing, and enforcement of trademarks, patents, copyright, and trade secrets before the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI), and represent clients in disputes where that protection has been infringed. Registration is where this practice begins but rarely where it ends: a trademark search conducted properly before filing, a patent specification drafted with an eye to the claims that will actually need defending, and a copyright position documented from the moment a work is created rather than reconstructed after a dispute arises — each of these determines, often years in advance, whether the right in question will hold up when it is finally tested.
We advise businesses on building a coherent intellectual property portfolio aligned to their actual commercial activity — trademarks across the classes a business genuinely operates in, not merely the ones that seemed relevant at the time of filing; licensing arrangements that specify scope, territory, and royalty terms with enough precision to survive a disagreement between licensor and licensee; and trade secret protocols that create an actual evidentiary record of confidentiality, since a trade secret claim without a documented history of protective measures is a difficult claim to win, however genuinely the information was treated as confidential in practice.
In an economy increasingly built on brand and innovation rather than physical asset alone, intellectual property is frequently a client's most valuable holding and its most under-protected one. We represent clients in enforcement actions against infringement — counterfeit goods, unauthorised use of trademarks, and the unlawful copying of protected works — and we advise clients on the defensive side of these disputes as well, where an allegation of infringement, however aggressively asserted, is not always well-founded. Our practice exists to correct the imbalance between a right's value and its protection before that imbalance becomes costly, rather than after.
